2011 Black List - Scorecard

We decided to break down this year’s Black List to see who about town is attached to the top scripts of the year. It’s a pretty big achievement for the agents and managers who rep the selected writers, and for the companies smart enough to attach themselves to quality projects - kudos. Scroll to the bottom of the post for the entire breakdown, and see some of the highlights below.

THE TOP TEN

Of the top ten scripts (or eleven, since BEYOND THE PALE and EZEKIEL MOSS tied for 10th), CAA repped 8 of the writers, and WME 3. The following agents rep 2 or more scripts in the top 10:

Matt Rosen – 3
Jacqueline Sacerio – 2
John Garvey – 2
JP Evans – 2
Simon Faber – 2

Four of the top ten scripts are set up at Warner Bros. Three are set up independently - with FilmNation, Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, and Vendome. Two are not set-up (CHEWIE and THE CURRENT WAR).

THE COMPLETE BLACK LIST

WME, CAA, and UTA repped the most scripts by a long shot. The full breakdown by agency is as follows:

WME – 21
CAA – 20
UTA – 18
Paradigm – 4
Verve – 4
ICM – 3
APA – 1
Gersh – 1
Nethercott – 1
Original Artists – 1

As for individual agents, Jason Burns repped 5 of the selected scripts. Bill Zotti, Jacqueline Sacerio, Matt Rosen, Rich Cook, and Simon Faber each repped 4.

Management 360 topped the list with 5 scripts. The following management companies repped more than one script on the list:

Kaplan/Perrone – 4
Mosaic – 4
Circle of Confusion – 3
The Gotham Group – 3
H2F – 3
Caliber - 2
Energy Entertainment - 2
The Fourth Floor – 2
Industry Entertainment - 2
Oasis – 2

The following managers repped more than one script:

Chris Fenton – 3
Langley Perer – 3
Mary Lee – 3
Alex Lerner – 2
Ben Rowe – 2
Brooklyn Weaver – 2
Dallas Sonnier – 2
Jeff Silver – 2
Jess Rosenthal – 2
Sean Perrone – 2
Tom Drumm – 2

39 of the 73 Black List scripts have financing. Warner Bros. topped the list by quite a margin with 10 Black List scripts. Following in second is Columbia with 4, and Paramount and Fox with 3 each.

20 of the 73 Black List scripts aren’t set up, but have producers attached. 14 are not yet set-up, 6 of which also made THE HIT LIST, Tracking-Board.com’s list of the best specs of the year (BLOOD MOUNTAIN, SUBJECT ZERO, MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS, CHEWIE, FLASHBACK, and GASLIGHT).

What are the other ones that aren’t set up? To have that info at a glance would be cool.
