Mary Parent and Paramount’s Comic Buying Frenzy!

Paramount acquired the rights to yet another comic today - NEW KID, by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik. Mary Parent‘s Disruption Entertainment will produce the movie. Gary Whitta will write the adaptation.

Earlier today, we blogged that Paramount and Disruption will produce THE MIGHTY, based on a graphic novel.

Peter Tomasi and Keith Champagne‘s comic book, THE MIGHTY, is out from JC Spink at Benderspink.

 

David Fincher Options PANIC ATTACK

David Fincher optioned Jason Starr‘s thriller PANIC ATTACK. Ted Griffin will adapt the novel for the screen. Fincher’s Panic Pictures will produce through their deal with MRC.

Yet Another Fairy “Tail” Adaptation

The Little Mermaid is the latest fairy tale to get a restyling for the big screen. Columbia acquired the rights to MERMAID: A TWIST ON THE CLASSIC TALE, a novel by Carolyn Turgeon. Shana Feste (COUNTRY STRONG) will write and direct, and Tobey Maguire‘s Material Pictures will produce.

Fox picked up the rights to the forthcoming novel MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN by Ransom Riggs. Chernin will produce.

Go The F**K to Sleep

Fox 2000 is adding an adaptation of Adam Mansbach‘s book GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP to its development slate. Erin Siminoff will oversee the project.

TWILIGHT Director Takes on BITCH POSSE

Catherine Hardwicke (TWILIGHT, RED RIDING HOOD) has found her next project, an adaptation of the 2006 novel THE BITCH POSSE by Martha O’Connor. Tristine Skyler will write the screenplay.

 

 

CRAZY, STUPID LOVE Writer to Direct ME & EARL & THE DYING GIRL

Indian Paintbrush acquired the rights to the upcoming Harry N. Abrams, Inc. YA novel ME  & EARL & THE DYING GIRL.  Dan Fogelman, one of the hottest writers in town with two multi-million dollar spec sales in the past 18 months (CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE and IMAGINE), will direct the film, which will be written by the novelist, Jesse Andrews.
