Scoggins Report - August Spec Market Scorecard - August 26 2011

Labor Day’s around the corner, which means two things: The end of Summer, and the beginning of the Fall selling season. In the intro of this week’s Scoggins Report, we took a look at the last two years’ Fall numbers to get a sense of what’s in store between now and the end of the year.

All the glorious details are in the below embedded document. Here’s a link to the PDF so you can download it and pass it off to your colleagues as your own work.

Scoggins Report - August 12 2011 - July Spec Market Roundup

As you’ll see in the latest edition of the Scoggins Report, July’s spec market saw the extension of several winning streaks, most notably those of Warner Bros. and CAA. Warner Bros. is back in first place among buyers, with 9 so far this year, which makes 16 in the past 12 months. And CAA’s strong performance over the past two months puts them tied with UTA and WME for first place among sellers.

All the glorious details are in the below embedded document. Here’s the usual link so you can download the PDF and bring light to those still in darkness.

Scoggins Report - July 29 2011 - July Spec Market Scorecard

This time last year, the spec market was closed for the summer: Zero scripts sold last July, and just one got set up in August.

But that was so 12 months ago. As you’ll see from the below Scoggins Report, July 2011′s numbers are on track to match April’s and May’s, which is a big surprise. We went back and compared year-over-year numbers for the first six months of 2009, 2010 and 2011, and the results are very encouraging: Nearly 25% of the scripts that hit the market this year have sold, which is the best performance we’ve seen since the 2007 WGA strike.

As always, the below embedded document prints beautifully, and here’s a link so you can download the PDF and spread joy to the world.

Gavin Polone interview with Kim Masters for KCRW’s “The Treatment”

I know, I know - we’re at risk of becoming an NPR affiliate here at IOTG. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a longform interview. When it’s easier to embed Charlie Rose shows, we’ll do that, too.

Monday’s edition of KCRW’s “The Treatment” features a Kim Masters interview with “The Dark Prince of Hollywood,” Gavin Polone. He’s promoting the Conan O’Brien documentary, “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop,” which opens Friday. The Conan stuff is good, but my favorite part is the second half of the interview as Polone reflects on his rise through Hollywood from agent to manager to producer.

Enjoy.

In our never-ending quest to provide the best possible experience to fans of the Scoggins Report, we’re back to embedding the document here for your online reading pleasure.

The below prints beautifully, but apparently Scribd restricts downloading from embeds. We’ve got your back, though - here’s a link to view and download the PDF:
