GARGOYLES Writers Set in Stone

David Elliot and Paul Lovett (GI JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA) have been tapped to write GARGOYLES for Disney. The project is not linked to the 90s Disney cartoon; it will reinterpret the mythological statues as guardian angels. And here’s the ultimate shocker: the studio is hoping to launch a franchise based on the creatures, including transmedia spinoffs and merchandising.

 

Goyer to Tackle GODZILLA

David Goyer has been hired to rewrite David Callaham‘s draft of GODZILLA for Legendary. Lin Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are also producing the remake of the mega-hit. Should be a giant lizard of a good time.*

Filled OWA: THE LUXE

Bess Wohl will adapt THE LUXE for Fake Empire (GOSSIP GIRL) and Alloy Entertainment (PRETTY LITTLE LIARS). The project, based off a dramatic young adult novel series (as these things tend to be), is set up at Paramount.

Big ups to our friends over at Tracking-Board.com for scooping news on the next installment of The Hangover franchise: In news that will surprise absolutely no one, Craig Mazin is returning to write The Hangover 3. Mazin has writing credit with Scot Armstrong and director Todd Phillips on The Hangover 2, which made nearly $200 million worldwide in its first five days of release.

David Mandel (THE DICTATOR) is in negotiations to write the script for FLETCH, the reboot of the 1985 classic starring Chevy Chase.

Ed Whitworth, a script reader for Harpo Films will be making his screenwriting debut with YOUNG MERLIN, an adaptation of T.A. Barron’s novels about the wizard. De Line is producing the pic for Warner Bros.

Writer hired: BRAT PACK, Justin Rhodes

Justin Rhodes has been hired to pen the BRAT PACK screenplay for Ars Nova, based on the graphic novel by Rick Veitch. The story follows a group of superheroes who must find new sidekicks after a super villain kills off the last one.
