New sci-fi romance book, CREWEL, by Gennifer Albin, is out from Nick Harris and Josie Freedman at ICM.

Andrew Adamson to produce and direct BEASTS OF BURDEN

SHREK and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA director Andrew Adamson will bring the Dark Horse comic BEASTS OF BURDEN to the big screen. Adamson is producing and directing the CG animated adaptation with Strange Weather Films partner Aron Warner, along with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment. The story is set in a community called Burden Hill which experiences a series a supernatural events, causing a gang of dogs (and one cat) to band together to save their owners and the community.

Writer hired: John Hlavin to pen RISK

Screenwriter John Hlavin has been hired to scribe Columbia Picture’s RISK, an action thriller based on the popular board game. Hlavin has previously written on “The Shield” and his original script THE GUNSLINGER made the Black List in 2009.

New spec script: SIR IVANHOE, by Doug Kissock

New period adventure spec, SIR IVANHOE by Doug Kissock, is out from David Warden of The Warden Group. It is based on the novel “Ivanhoe” written by Sir Walter Scott and is being pitched as in the vein of “Game of Thrones” meets “Braveheart,” but in Olde England.

New spec script: THE YOUNG, THE HOT, AND THE BOTHERED, by Leah Rachel

A new comedy spec script, THE YOUNG, THE HOT, AND THE BOTHERED by Leah Rachel, is out from Rich Cook and Hanley Baxter at WME and Adam Kossack and Adam Shulman at Anonymous Content. Project is being pitched as ‘Dazed and Confused’ meets ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’, on the eve of Y2K.

New spec script: PITCHFORK, by Mark and Jay Duplass

PITCHFORK, a new dramedy spec script by Mark and Jay Duplass, is out from Aaron Hart and Emile Gladstone at ICM. Story centers on a mother of an indie rock star son, who after her son is killed in a car accident, decides to seek vengeance against an online blogger who is destroying the memory of her son via snarky comments and lies. But, when she finds the blogger via the music website, Pitchfork, she comes to discover he’s a distant and lost teen, just looking for meaning in a world he doesn’t yet understand. Jonah Hill is attached to the project.

New spec script: MAIL MEN, by Lon Zimmet and Dan Rubin

A new action comedy spec script, MAIL MEN by Lon Zimmet and Dan Rubin, is out from Mickey Berman, Pete Stone, and Josh Hornstock at ICM and Christie Smith and Michael Lasker at Mosaic. It is being pitched as a comedic TRAINING DAY following two mailmen on their first days on the job.

New spec script: PITCHING PENNIES, by Nate Crocker

A new crime drama spec script, PITCHING PENNIES by Nate Crocker, is out from John Adams at The Operating Room. The story follows a naïve police officer who foolishly exposes a young boy as the only witness to a drug related murder and finds his only chance to save him lies in the hands of a dangerous criminal. It is being pitched as in the vein of GONE BABY GONE and TRAINING DAY.
