Mike Fleming (deadline.com): Del Toro Leaves ‘The Hobbit’ As Director

Guillermo del Toro announced today on the OneRing.net — the official Middle Earth sounding board — that he's stepped out of the directing assignment on the two film versions of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit, though he will continue to collaborate as a writer.

The rest of last week’s specs (week of May 17, 2010)

My family and I moved out of our house last week, which had a predictable effect on the number of posts I put up here and on www.lifeonthebubble.com.  I cranked out my Spec Market Scorecard, and the team updated the database over at www.itsonthegrid.com with its usual aplomb, but I really fell behind otherwise.  I'm going to do some catch up posts on LOTB, and this post is a wrap up of the spec activity I missed last week, in alphabetical order by project, and not including a spec sale that I'll post separately. There were a couple other specs that I captured in separate posts on Monday in addition to the below.

Congratulations to di Bonaventura Pictures’ Ed Fee

I've been basically off the grid for the past several days so I'm not sure if this has been widely circulated, but Ed Fee got promoted last week from CE to Director of Development at di Bonaventura Pictures. Congratulations, Ed!
