Sure, viral marketing isn’t exactly a new notion, but sometimes a publicity stunt is just so innovative and cool it’s worth a mention. The latest piece of CHRONICLE’s marketing campaign definitely falls into that category.
A team of “viral sensation specialists” (keep your gonorrhea jokes to yourselves, thanks) at Thinkmodo designed a scheme around three people-shaped airplanes flying around New York City. Perfect advertising for the found footage film that chronicles three teenagers who develop mysterious superpowers.
Not only did the stunt capture the attention of passersby, but the video showing exactly how they pulled it off is going viral as well. Maybe someday there’ll be a found footage movie about viral stunts using the footage found on the passersby’s cell phone cameras. Now that would be meta.
