New spec script: SMALL TALK by Rock Baijnauth

UTA‘s Jon Huddle, Barbara Dreyfus & Emerson Davis and Prolific‘s Will Rowbotham are out with SMALL TALK, a comedy spec by Rock Baijnauth.  Davis Entertainment is attached to produce.

Spec sale: INVERTIGO

Ehren Kruger and Bradley Cramp‘s INVERTIGO sold to Columbia for Neal Moritz‘s Original Film to produce.  Daniel Bobker will exec produce with Kruger.

Btw, two additional noteworthy tidbits:

1. It was announced today that Kruger will script an untitled exploring project at Disney, based loosely on the Matterhorn ride.

2. This is Columbia’s first spec buy of the season.

New pitch: UNTITLED FAXON/RASH COMEDY by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash

Kristen Wiig is attached to an untitled comedy pitch, out from CAA and Principato/Young-repped Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.

New spec script: MAY DAY by Heather Hughes and Kate Wharton

On the Griddle: A Snapshot of This Weekend’s Tracking

If we learned anything this week, it’s that publicity stunts might just work.  At the ACT OF VALOR premiere last week,  a team of Navy SEALS parachuted from the sky.  And this week, the tracking numbers are way higher than they were just one week ago.  Awareness is at 66%, definite interest at 40%, and it’s the first choice for 19% of male audiences, 2% of younger female audiences, and 5% of older female audiences.  GONE also saw a spike, but only a slight one among women. It’s now tracking at 5% first choice for women and 1% for men.  Looks like sneak peeks on ABC Family really tap into the target demo.  Total awareness for the Amanda Seyfried pic is at at 49%, and definite interest is at 29%.  Tyler Perry’s GOOD DEEDS is also connecting more with women than men, with first choice at 2% for men and 6 and 8 percent for younger and older women, respectively.  Awareness is at 56% and definite interest at 29%.  And WANDERLUST is still looking like it’ll lose the weekend (for shame, America!), with awareness at 57%, definite interest at 25%, and first choice at 2% for older men and younger women and 5% for older women.  It’s not tracking at all as the first choice for younger men.

THE LORAX has seen a bit of a decrease from last week.  It’s now at 83% awareness, 36% overall definite interest, and 4% first choice for younger men, 5% for older men, 14% for younger women, and 7% for older women.  Gotta rely on the girls to save the trees.  You definitely can’t rely on older women to care about teenage parties (which may or may not be a good thing).  PROJECT X isn’t tracking at all as first choice for that demo, but it is looking good in other demos – 13% of younger men, and 4% of older men and younger women list it as their first choice for the weekend.  Total awareness is at 45% (though we’d venture that in LA alone it’s a lot more than that) and definite interest is at 36%.

JOHN CARTER will likely win the following weekend, at least compared to the other new releases.  Still probably won’t be enough for the big budget actioner.  Awareness is at 59%, definite interest at 31%, and it’s the first choice for 4% of younger men, 11% of older men, and 2% of women.  That’s a gold mine compared to the indie horror SILENT HOUSE (hey, we’re captain obvious today, aren’t we?),  which is at 29% awareness, 22% definite interest, and 1% first choice for all demos except younger women for whom it’s at 0.  Eddie Murphy’s A THOUSAND WORDS is at 38% awareness, 31% definite interest, 3% first choice for younger men, 2% for older men, 1% for younger women, and 4% for older men.  So in a word, March 9 is going to be AWESOME.

Hot Trailer: THE TROUBLE WITH BLISS

The trailer for THE TROUBLE WITH BLISS is probably excellent if you’ve already seen the film.  It seems filled with heartfelt character moments, inside jokes, and a subtle tenderness.  Except, we haven’t seen the film, so we’re not really sure what just happened.  Michael C. Hall has a great turn as 35-year-old man child who falls for his friend’s 18-year-old daughter, and the rest of the cast is a delight as well, but there’s a bit of an empty “hmmm” that emerges after watching this trailer.

See for yourself via Apple.  And catch the film in theaters on March 23rd.  Because THE HUNGER GAMES will be sold out.

Hot Trailer: STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

Chris Colfer just proved he is way more than just Glee - and reminded us why we succumbed to that show in the first place.  Because there is something incredible about the actor, who’s now found himself in hyphenate territory.  The trailer for his writing debut STRUCK BY LIGHTNING is pretty great.  Heartwarming, compelling, and filled with a cast we’re kind of obsessed with (Rebel Wilson, Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland, Allie Grant, and of course, Colfer himself).  The story follows an overachieving high school student with dreams of attending Northwestern’s prestigious journalism program so he can go on to edit the New Yorker who blackmails his popular classmates to get them to contribute to his newly founded literary magazine.  There’s something every EASY A and ELECTION about the whole thing.

There’s no distribution yet, which is a shame.  We’d see this in a heartbeat – please let us.

New spec script: I.T. by Dan Kay

Dan Kay‘s spec I.T. is out from Bayard Maybank and Devra Lieb at Gersh.  David Friendly is attached to produce and Roger Donaldson is attached to direct.
